Course Description

The focimeter, more commonly referred to as a manual lensometer, is an optician’s primary tool for prescription verification. This instrument is essential equipment in the final inspection process for neutralization of lens power and evaluating prism alignment. This class will explore all the functions and measuring tools within the manual lensometer along with the processes for verifying lens power for all lens types.

Course Objectives

  • Identify all the parts of a standard lensometer and the functions of each component.
  • Describe the process for measuring power, cylinder power, axis, and prism using a manual lensometer.
  • Demonstrate the proper procedure for neutralizing all lens types by identifying the appropriate reference points and prism placement.

Course Assessment

There is a 20-question test at the end of the course. A successful passing score of 80% is required on all ABO-NCLE continuing education courses in order to earn the designated number of credits. You will know your grade instantly after completing the course.
