CE Credit and Licensing Requirements by State

No state board or license requirements.

ABO and/or NCLE Board Certified Opticians and/or Contact Lens Technicians must renew their certification every 3 years:

  • ABO Certified: Must earn 12 CECs (of which at least 6 hours are ABO-approved Ophthalmic CECs)
  • NCLE Certified: Must earn 18 CECs (of which at least 9 hours are NCLE-approved Ophthalmic CECs)
  • ABO and NCLE Certified: If you are jointly certified, for your ABO renewal, you may send in 9 ABO-approved CECs (of which at least 5 hours are ABO-approved Ophthalmic CECs); for your NCLE Renewal, you may send in 12 NCLE-approved CECs (of which at least 6 hours are NCLE-approved Ophthalmic CECs).
