Blue light has both benefits and inherent hazards and the optical industry is on the forefront of providing
preventative optical technology. After working with the course, the ECP will better understand what type
of education and preventative solutions to offer a patient. The radiant spectrum, including visible light, is
discussed. Ocular anatomy that responds to radiant light, especially UV and blue light is studied.
Attenuation of blue light and the preventative products or techniques available are all covered. The
course concludes with the role of the ECP in providing this important ocular protection, and alternate
spectral concerns are briefly discussed.
