Course Description

The optician who works with contact lens patients will be called upon to assist in patient fitting, lens choice and also implementing advanced diagnostic techniques when needed. The optician will also be able to offer the patient a custom fit in a soft lens as well as skilled troubleshooting on the rare occasion that a problem is perceived. 

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, opticians will be able to: 

• Classify lens materials by schedules, chemistry, and replacement timing
• Determine the best possible lens parameters using the interpretation of the Rx and other factors
• Select the optimal material for a patient’s lifestyle
• Utilize a diagnostic fit using new lens parameters and evaluation methods
• Evaluate the fit of soft contact lenses
• Describe advanced steps to troubleshoot and solve any lens or patient problems

Course Assessment

There is a 40-question test at the end of the course. A successful passing score of 80% is required on all NLCE continuing education courses in order to earn the designated number of credits. You will know your grade instantly after completing the course.
