The NCLE Exam Preparation course curriculum comprehensively covers historical developments of contact lenses, as well as the various designs and materials. Ocular anatomy, physiology, and pathology are discussed along with the potential adverse effects of contact lenses. The course explores contact lens concepts and principles, including transposition, vertex distance, the lacrimal lens, and calculating the power of a contact lens. Students learn of the instrumentation in the field, as well as modification and verification practices of a lens. Fitting methods for soft and rigid lenses are presented, as well as the architecture, inspection, and verification of each. Additionally, the curriculum covers dispensing and follow-up procedures including fitting techniques and assessment. Insertaion and removal techniques are presented, as well as wearing schedules, follow-up visits, lens care and cleaning, and patient education. Lastly, the course covers th standards and regulations of the field with emphasis on agencies, tolerances, and rules pertaining to a contact lens fitter.

The course consists of 7 modules, and a total of 23 lessons. There are a variety of quizzes, totaling 105 questions for the student to track their progress and retain information.

This course is designed to help prepare for the Contact Lens Registry Exam administered by the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE).
