Free form has also been referred to as direct to surface lens processing, or direct technology, or digital lens processing. The excitement surrounding this lens manufacturing technique lies in its capability to create
a unique one of a kind progressive lens using state of the art surfacing technology. This technology enables the lens manufacturer to produce a corrective lens designed specifically to accommodate the patient’s prescription without the compromises which were previously necessitated by a conventional lens inventory built around a limited number of base curves. Today, most of the major lens manufacturers have at least one product on the market that employs free form lens processing.
