The ABO Exam Preparation course curriculum comprehensively covers ocular anatomy and physiology, emphasizing the structure and function of the eye, common ophthalmic conditions, and basic pharmacology. It explores optical concepts such as the electromagnetic spectrum, prismatic effects, and historical milestones in optometry. Students learn to analyze lens forms, calculate prescriptions, and understand lens power and thickness adjustments. The program also focuses on selecting and fitting ophthalmic frames, ensuring proper alignment, comfort, and visual correction. Various lens types and materials are compared for their properties and uses, including single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. Lens treatments such as anti-reflective coatings and UV protection are discussed, alongside techniques for accurately fitting and dispensing lenses. Additionally, the curriculum covers the use of instrumentation for measuring and verifying lens prescriptions, as well as the relevant laws and standards in opticianry practice. Lastly, it addresses pre-screening and examination concepts, including the use of pre-testing equipment and low vision aids, to assess and enhance patient visual performance.

The course consists of 8 modules, and a total of 25 lessons. There are a variety of quizzes, totaling 120 questions for the student to track their progress and retain information.

This course is designed to help prepare for the National Opticianry Competency Exam administered by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).
