Modification & Delivery
In-Office Modification

In office modifications of rigid contact lenses enables the practitioner to provide better and faster service to the patient. In many cases it allows the patient to continue with an uninterrupted wearing schedule.

Most contact lens modification units are simple in design and relatively inexpensive.

The modifications listed below summarize those in-office adjustments that can be made to rigid and rigid gas-permeable lenses. All of the adjustments listed will have the effect of actually loosening the fit of the lens and/or increasing the tear flow between the lens and cornea. If the fit of the lens needs to be tightened, it would require the fabrication of a completely new lens.

Possible In-Office Modifications for Rigid Contact Lenses

  1. Blend transition or junction zones
  2. Reduce optic zone diameter
  3. Reduce overall lens diameter
  4. Flatten intermediate curves
  5. Add minus power
  6. Add plus power
  7. Remove scratches
  8. Polish and refinish lens edge
  9. Adjust peripheral curves
  10. Identify the lens
